自分が子供のころ、ちょうどゲームボーイが発売された。持ってる友達がプレイするのを横目で見ていた。携帯ゲーム機がもう少し普及してから親に買ってもらった。外に行ってもゲームでばかり遊んでいた記憶がある。ベッドタウン育ちなので自然があまりなかったから、山や川や森や海なんかは、ゲームの中のフィールドの方が身近だった。年を重ねて自然に目を向けてみても、やっぱり思い出す原風景はゲームの中だ。山や川や森や海に行くと、その場所のBGMが頭の中で流れる。自然を模して造られたゲームがふるさとのひとつになっているのは少し不思議だけど、フォーカスする部分が違うだけだ。現実も空想も、どこからどこを見ていて、そこにどういう制約があるかの違いに過ぎない。
